The heart of Wilmington, North Carolina lies in our three stunning beaches. From laid-back family fun to thrilling water activities, each destination brings something different and wonderful to the table, with endless possibilities for spending your summer days on the Carolina coast.
If you’re planning an idyllic day on the shoreline, be sure to check out our top contenders.
Carolina Beach
Looking for an old-school boardwalk? Fun for the whole family? Hiking at the Carolina Beach State Park? This is the beach that seriously has it all. A family favorite with activities for every season, and home to the famous Carolina Beach Boardwalk! Classic amusement park rides and weekly fireworks are summer staples, and you can always catch an amazing show with local bands every Thursday. If you’re looking for a quintessential summer experience for everyone in your crew, this is the beach for you.
Kure Beach
If you love history and relaxing in nature, Kure Beach is a clear winner. Visit the Fort Fisher State Historic Site, where the largest Civil War land/sea battle took place. Or relax and take in the scenery at the Ocean Front Park & Pavilion. Kayak around some of the most beautiful lagoon complexes and salt marshes in the area. Then grab some of the best seafood you’ve ever had at one of the many local restaurants. They say Kure Beach is a hidden gem for a reason!
Writesville Beach
Nightlife, dining and shopping, excursions and activities…There’s something for everyone at Wilmington’s most popular beach getaway. Relax at one of the luxurious resorts, hit the town and make memories at the local beach bars, or get your sailing license and learn a new watersport. The crystal blue waters and pristine beaches attract visitors from all around the world, and there’s never a shortage of exciting things to do.
Honorable Mention: Topsail Beach
While technically a bit more of a drive from Wilmington than the main island beaches, I couldn’t leave out Topsail! If you want to beach like a local, this is the place to do it. Topsail Beach is a quiet, tranquil favorite among North Carolinians, home to a beloved sea turtle hospital and some of the most stunning views in the area. And at low tide, it’s a popular spot to search for shark teeth!
You simply can’t visit Wilmington without checking out our incredible beaches and coastal activities. Our islands are rich with American history and filled to the brim with unbelievable coastal dining experiences. There’s a reason so many families are flocking to Wilmington and putting down new roots!
I moved to Wilmington over 10 years ago and absolutely love raising my family on the coast line. The memories we’ve made are priceless, and I am honored to help families find their home base and experience this magic, too.
