Wilmington Neighborhood Highlight: Middle Sound Loop

Welcome back to my Neighborhood Highlight series, where I highlight popular and up-and-coming neighborhoods for those looking to put down roots in the Wilmington area.

Today’s focus is on one of the most family-friendly neighborhoods in the area: Middle Sound Loop. There are options for both new builds and existing homes with unbeatable water access and views all around town. Now I might be a bit biased, because it’s also where I live! But believe me when I tell you this is one of the most popular areas for those looking to relocate to Wilmington. There are dozens of distinct neighborhoods along the loop, offering something for every type of buyer. I truly love living here with my husband, two kids, and all our pets, and I’m so excited to tell you more about this growing area.

Here are some of the can’t miss highlights:

1. Intracoastal Waterway

This community consists of scattered neighborhoods around several creeks, inlets, and of course the beautiful Intracoastal Waterway. Boaters can use this “blue highway” to head over to Wrightsville Beach, which is only 15 minutes from town! The inlet spans the entire coast of North Carolina and then some, making it a popular mode of transportation to all the coastal hubs and hot spots.

2. Marina Access

There are three main marinas within Middle Sound Loop: Mason’s Marina, Anchors Bend Marina, and Middle Sound Marina. Members can dock their boat or launch to their next adventure with easy access to all the main waterways in the area.

3. Green Space

Even with its close proximity to Downtown Wilmington, Middle Sound Loop is home to ample, wide open green spaces, offering peaceful and serene vibes without sacrificing city or ocean access. This area is also known for their beautiful horse farms, like Sycamore Bend Estate, which is also a highly sought-after wedding and event venue with gorgeous southern coastal charm! Check them out here.

4. Friendly for Every Budget

There is no shortage of options when it comes to finding the right neighborhood in Middle Sound Loop. Homes in this area are available from wide range of prices, offering something for every lifestyle, budget, and taste.

5. Unmatched Privacy

It’s rare to experience privacy so close to the city, but Middle Sound neighborhoods boast larger lot sizes compared to others. Not only does this provide more physical privacy and space with greenery and land, but there are also more opportunities to find a home that isn’t bound to an HOA (which is extremely common for most neighborhoods in the area).

6. Thriving Local Businesses

The Ogden area is home to some of my favorite small businesses in Wilmington, and is also just minutes away from Mayfaire and Wrightsville Beach! A couple spots that I can’t live without: Casa Blanca Coffee Roasters is right around the corner for your morning coffee runs, and The Bend offers delicious cocktails and live entertainment, as well as Grumpy’s Soft Serve (aka the best ice cream in Wilmington). The juxtaposition of privacy and things to do is a unique feature of the Middle Sound Loop area, and a big reason why families are relocating here at record numbers.

I’ve been living in Wilmington for over 10 years now, and there is nothing I value more than having a safe and secure neighborhood to raise my family in. Middle Sound Loop is one of many areas in the city that are attracting tons of families, young professionals, and retirees looking to settle down on the Carolina coast. Wilmington is growing rapidly, and now is the best time to get in and make yourself at home!

If you’re interested in checking out homes for sale in this community, or any home on the Wilmington market, let’s talk!
