Wilmington, NC Spring Travel Guide

Many people think of Wilmington as a summer destination, but this coastal North Carolina city is booming in the springtime, too! Iconic local markets begin to open, the summer crowds are still a few months from peaking, and locals are hitting their favorite hotspots.

With April average highs of 75°, now is the perfect time to plan a spring trip and start checking off your Wilmington bucket list.

While there’s no shortage of things to do, here are some of my seasonal favorites.

Biggers Market

Beautiful blooming bouquets, juicy seasonal produce, and patio or garden decor galore! Biggers Market opens its 2 locations every spring to kick off a new year of farm-fresh goodness.

If you’re craving some drink and entertainment, their Backyard Bar is open every weekend alongside vibrant live music.

Airlie Garden

Love historical gardens and exciting environmental programs? Airlie is run by a non-profit organization that preserves the beauty of these gardens, with a rich history that dates all the way back to the 1700s! With over 200,000 visitors every year, the gardens are a springtime staple.

Enjoy a peaceful guided tour while the cherry blossoms are in bloom, or attend one of their beloved events, exhibits, or concert series.

Lewis Farms

Lewis Farms opens up every spring to bring amazing local produce (especially their berries) grown on a 4th generation family farm. From the beautiful grounds and greenhouses to the homemade jams and icecream, it’s no surprise people count down the days until they open their doors to the public each spring.

And you can’t miss their U-Pick seasonal berries! Explore the farm while harvesting your own bucket of berries (whatever’s currently in season) for an unforgettable experience.

North Carolina Azalea Festival

This year’s Azalea Festival takes place April 8–12, 2026!

Walk the bustling street fair, dance the night away at a sponsored concert, and take in the beauty of the azalea blooms during one of Wilmington’s most anticipated events of the year.

With a long history and beloved traditions, Wilmington’s Azalea Festival is not one to miss. Plus, this year’s Queen Azalea is Elaine Hendrix! (This is extra special if you’re a fan of Dancing With the Stars.)

New Hanover Country Arboretum

7 acres of seasonal blooms, peaceful koi ponds, and tranquil trails.

Spring is a beautiful time to visit the arboretum, while Japanese cherry blossoms are in full bloom. And don’t forget to stop by the authentic tea house surrounded by Japanese maples!

With tons of seasonal events, this is an essential stop on your Wilmington spring bucket list!
