Emma Knows a Guy Pt 1: Wilmington Interior Photography With Realist Images

Welcome to my new series, Emma Knows a Guy, where I tell you about some of my favorite local businesses in the Wilmington area! When you’re looking to buy or sell a home, or even as new homeowners taking on your first projects, finding the right vendors and contractors can make or break your experience. And one of my favorite parts of my job is connecting my buyers and sellers with the right people for the projects they need!

Today I’m highlighting Sarah Ann from Realist Images, an editorial interior photographer who specializes in homes and businesses. She’s a trusted local partner for interior designers, home builders, vendors within the home building space, and real estate specialists to plan and execute photoshoots that capture the beauty and charm of your space.

For sellers looking to spruce up their home for a listing photoshoot, the owner Sarah Ann has some helpful tips to get the most out of your shoot.

1. Declutter!

Remove personal items from countertops, bathrooms, tables, etc. and be sure to hide or remove garbage cans, clothing and shoes, and pet products. The goal of these shoots is to make it look like no one in particular lives there, but someone could. Focus on the potential of the space for a future family.

2. Dust & clean fixtures.

When the rest of your stuff is neatly put away, think about the features that are going to shine the most in your photos. Light fixtures, appliances, surfaces…you want everything to feel as untouched as possible, so give them a good cleaning!

3. Stage each room.

When you remove personal items, the room might look a little more empty. Consider neutral props that don’t have any seasonality, like plants and throw pillows, to make the space feel livable, not lived in.

4. Let in as much natural light as possible

Clean your windows and open your blinds and shades to make the home feel bright for your photos! An interior photographer will bring professional lighting, but natural light always helps (and is an attractive selling point for a home).

Making your home ready for the market might feel daunting, but a quality photographer like Realist Images is a great way to stand out in the market and highlight the most desirable features of your home! Questions on staging? Your photographer can be a helpful, guiding resource.
